5 Tips For A Better LinkedIn Experience in 2026
There is a lot going on in the outside world as well as in the job market, the economy, and technology. Plus personal life and all. the.things.
While it feels like we're white-knuckling and clenching along this roller coaster ride we call life, there is something about your career that you can control.
Do you want to know how to give your career an edge in 2026?
You're not gonna like it: interacting more on LinkedIn.
I know, I know. I can hear your eyes rolling but before you click away hear me out!
You Hate LinkedIn But You Also Know It's Essential...
I know that you hate LinkedIn. You dread logging in and feel guilty that you’ve let your profile grow stale. You know that using LinkedIn is important/vital for getting hired but you just dread it... You think it’s performative and self-congratulatory.
This is why it’s so important to update LinkedIn and be engaged BEFORE you need it. So it feels more supportive and less transactional…
When you start showing up and contributing in the comments, sharing about your story, you’ll be amazed at how supportive your network can be. But you gotta show up. Start with once a week at first and then go from there.
5 Tips For A Better LinkedIn
Feeling more comfortable with LinkedIn in 2026 is simple:
Comment on posts with thoughtful comments that are 10+ words
Click the 3 dots to Save posts that you like
Hit Repost and choose "repost with your thoughts"
Write original posts* and articles that are relevant to your industry
Be consistent and show up for yourself and your network
✨ *Pro-tip Did you know you can schedule posts ahead of time?
Do these 5 things every week and see how your experience on this platform starts to improve. Show up for yourself and your network weekly. Genuine connection in real-time is your reward.
You'll also be pleasantly surprised by how supportive and caring the people in your network can be. And when you show up BEFORE you need help and take them along with you for the journey, sharing about when you reach your goal feels even sweeter.
Why This Works
Ironically, the new algorithm (AI) set up by LinkedIn for 2026 and the foreseeable future actually encourages more authentic human connection. Gone are the days of simply commenting "Congratulations" by using the automated reply suggestion. I am 100% guilty of doing this in the past.
If you want to have more engagement you've got to be more engaged yourself. This means writing a comment with 1-2 sentences and taking the time to form a complete thought. Imagine what you might actually say to the person IRL if you were to see them at a networking event or in the office hallway.
Saving posts that you like serves two purposes: 1) It lets the person who created the post know you like it and makes their content more visible. 2) It lets the algorithm know what to show and give you more of in your feed.
Hitting Repost with your thoughts shows effort and thoughtfulness on your part and gets more eyeballs on both the original post and your profile.
Writing original posts (that you can schedule ahead of time) and articles helps you build relevance as a thought leader or subject matter expert (SME) in your industry. What are some topics that you like to mentor about? What are co-workers always asking you for help with understanding? What's a relevant or "hot topic" in your industry right now that you feel passionate about?
The algorithm on LinkedIn (and any other social for that matter) rewards consistency. Showing up predictably every week is far more beneficial than posting randomly whenever you feel "inspired." Challenge yourself to log in more often and on the same day each week. Start small and get braver as you go.
LinkedIn Is Like A Slow Cooker
I love to think of it as a slow-cooked meal in the Crockpot. There is effort and preparation up-front and then it works on your behalf while you go about your day. Same thing with setting up your LinkedIn profile. Checking in on it to "stir the pot" happens once a week using the tips above. ⬆️ Easy.
Over the years, I've helped hundreds of people improve their profiles. You can do this too!
I've personally seen consulting opportunities come through my LinkedIn profile--without any extra effort from me. Simply by setting my profile up in advance with the right keywords and posting in my own voice.
In fact, the consulting gig I currently have with an outplacement company came to me back in 2023 through LinkedIn.
The Director said she had been watching my posts for along time before she reached out to me. Funnily enough, the post she acted on was one where I talked about a toothache that I had before going to the dentist.
"I needed to know you had empathy before I wanted to hire you as a coach," she said. Wow.
The power of LinkedIn = Showing up Consistently + Authentically
Ready to get help with LinkedIn profile?
Don't be afraid to be yourself. Of course, keep it professional. Contributing your voice, your thoughts, and your insights is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and share with your network on LinkedIn.
